my philly promise…

One of my goals in 2011 is to see more of our great city, Philadelphia! We moved to PA  in March of last year to a charming little town outside of the city, and have been exploring the local countryside which is rich with history and beauty. However, we are close enough to the city to get there more often, and we will! Thanks to new friendscity guides, and local sites, we have quite a list to check off. Here are some of the places I am anxious to see, and more ideas and suggestions are welcome and much appreciated!

*explore ALL of Old City (shown above)…I have been there a few times and love it!

*visit Reading Terminal Market, with all of it's culture & yummy goodness

*enjoy the amazing restaurants…a long list, but it includes places like Beau Monde, White Dog CafeFARMiCiA, Continental Midtown, Capogiro, Parc, Buddakan

*hit all the design stores/spots (besides Marketplace Design Center, where I frequent)

*explore more of Rittenhouse Square, and spend time in the park

*re-discover all the historic sites & museums…and learn about new ones

Notes

  1. You DO have so much to discover, but so do I and I lived there for 20 years! My friend Winston is the Philly expert so anytime you want a longer list of restaurant options, just let me know :) You also have to visit the Barnes Foundation!!

  2. Great list! Also a great restaurant is La Minette (I did a post about it on my blog). It’s just across the street from Beau Monde and in the summer they have french movies outside in their charming outdoor dining courtyard. Personally, I’m not a fan of savory crepes so I love having dinner at La Minette and then running over for dessert at Beau Monde – deliciousness!

Hope you enjoy being a tourist in your “own” area! I think that’s a great idea!

  3. I second La Minette! Also check out stores and restaurants near Barbuzzo. Theres a cute store called open house. Also check out bar ferdinand for good brunch tapas and the Piazza in the northern liberties area. If you like wine check out the wine bar Tria.
