cottage living…after renovation

Ok, drumroll please (kidding)…the "after" shots of the kitchen! This is not a fait accompli, but it is at a point where I feel comfortable sharing it. We are waiting on the backsplash, statement light (fan will go), and open shelving (for budgetary reasons). Right now we have an original buit-in hutch we transformed in the opposite corner, which houses all of our dishes and glasses, and a large pantry. We are working on a corner banquette for that side of the room and I will share that once it is complete. So far the layout is functioning perfectly!

This room has come a long way from where it started. You can see the kitchen design plan here if you are interested. We kept the existing base cabinets, but painted them black to disguise the dishwasher. The beam is old salvaged barn wood which we handpicked to enhance the support beam (which wasn't pretty). It adds a touch of farmhouse style which I love. It is so much harder making design decisions for myself, but I am very happy with our choices, and the overall feel of the space. I would love to hear your thoughts!

Notes

  1. Love the beam! And open shelving is a favorite of mine too. I love kitchens without upper cabinets. Looks beautiful!

  2. LOVE, LOVE, LOVE it. It looks so beautiful and the clean lines are so nice, it is hard to imagine it is not complete. I love the back door right there. Would be great it you could make it a split door and could open the top to let the fresh air in and watch Billy in the backyard. The beam is so wonderful and adds even more character and to the sense of history. Photos of more rooms please!

  3. Thank you ALL so much!!

So good to see you here Joy! Good idea about the dutch door, that would fit in perfectly and Billy would love it too! :)

  4. Love it! It looks so much brighter, and I love, love, love the beam!

  5. Beautiful! I love the ceiling fan idea in the kichen because it gets hot cooking!

  6. OMG I love the handles! They remind me of some of the old Kelsey letterpress trays. And the counter top! What a dream! Great job on the reno! :)

  7. Wow! I’ve missed so much! Your kitchen is lovely and I LOVE those countertops. That’s the kind of kitchen I’d want to have my coffee in every morning – so warm.
