white star line…

White-star-line

Today marks the 100th anniversary of the sinking of the Titanic. I have an odd obsession with the trajedy, which began at a young age. I've always been intrigued by the circumstances and science surrounding it, but mostly…the people. Stories of despair, of triumph…to be faced with such a fate is beyond my comprehension. There are so many human lessons to be learned from that tragic event. So, a moment of reverence here…in honor of all those that lost their lives so bravely.

Notes

  1. I’m also fascinated by the stories of Titanic. In fact, I just watched National Geographic’s new feature “Save the Titanic,” which follows the shipwreck’s discoverer Bob Ballard to Belfast, Ireland where it was designed and built. I recommend it! (It’s on iTunes.) History nerds unite! x

  2. Years ago, I saw “The Big Piece” shortly after it was raised at an exhibit in Atlantic City. They had it in a large pool because it had not been restored yet and needed to be in the water to avoid additional corrosion. It was incredible to view such a significant piece of history and get close enough to see the rusted rivets and portholes. It has since been restored and painted and is now on display at the Titanic exhibit in Las Vegas. Today is a day to reflect and think about those lost and keep telling their stories.
