”A portrait of my children, once a week, every week, in 2014.”

Marie: “love you, mommy”…her first sentence, at 22 months old.

My sweet Marie…melts my heart on a daily basis. She has a zest for life, a beautiful confidence, and a sweet disposition. She’s an old soul–it’s as if she has a deep understanding of life when you look into her eyes. She says please and thank you for everything, even when telling her brother to leave her alone. Then she gives him a kiss.

henry + marie’s playroom!

I’m so excited to finally reveal our playroom!! We’ve been working on the space since moving into our home 3+ years ago, and after some renovation + love, it is a space we all enjoy! If you’re a regular reader, you know that our home is fairly monochromatic…I prefer neutrals, and lately, a lot of white. You’d be hard pressed to find anything boldly colored in the rest of our home. Needless to say, I think I got it all out of my system in the playroom! I wanted it to be cheery and inviting, since it’s a finished basement with limited light, it needed to be bright.  The space also functions as our media room now, and it’s a cozy retreat for my husband and I in the evenings. It’s a very functional room, one that will grow along with the kids. Land of Nod agreed to contribute some pieces to the room, and as a loyal customer of theirs, I couldn’t be happier to have their participation. They continually impress me!

happy mother’s day

threegenerations

Mothers are special, which I understand now more than ever. My mom set the bar high–I can only hope to do the same for my daughter. I am most certain that Marie will become a mother someday…the force is strong with this one. We gave her a baby doll for Christmas and not only has it not left her side since then, but she commandeered Henry’s baby doll as well so she could have boy/girl twins (just like mommy). When she wakes up in the morning, she feeds both her babies a fake bottle of milk, alternating the bottle from mouth to mouth. It is truly touching to witness, as it’s not something that has been taught or coached…she is simply mimicking me, and following her instincts. Becoming a mother has been my greatest joy in life–I hope she gets to have the experience, and the happiness that comes along with it.

freshly picked review + giveaway!

freshly-picked-moccs-giveaway

Henry and Marie are big fans of Freshly Picked moccasins–its pretty much all they wear (as you may have noticed). So when I got the offer to do to a review + giveaway, I jumped at the chance to share the moccasin love! If you’re not familiar with the brand, let me fill you in. Susan Peterson founded the company in 2009, when she created moccs for her son Gus out of scrap leather. She has grown the now incredibly successful business (did you catch her on Shark Tank?!) from a mere $200, and is an inspiration to me as a small business owner. They are so thoughtfully designed…buttery soft leather for comfort, a soft sole to assist walking, a snug fit so they won’t come off, and of course, the most stylish colors!

”A portrait of my children, once a week, every week, in 2014.”

This marks Henry’s 6th? haircut, as his hair grows like weeds. Until now my hairdresser has been cutting it, but in a pinch we stopped into the barber shop where mr. fleurishing goes. He was not happy about it, until he saw all the fun tools and gadgets they play with, and started to calm down. I managed to catch this momentary smile when the lady gave him a faux hawk. We were all smiling! Ok, maybe not Marie…she was just jealous the spotlight was on her brother.
