“When you are sorrowful, look again in your heart, and you shall see that in truth…

you are weeping for that which has been your delight.”

Kahlil Gibran

Exactly one month has passed since I lost my furry soulmate. It is very surreal…I feel as if I will still be processing his death for some time. I see him everywhere-at the foot of the bed, at the bottom of the stairs, in his poof, in the stroller with the kids…always by my side. For twelve years, he was my constant companion, my heart. That part of my heart went with him…and so I mourn the void. I am sorrowful for the days that were taken from us, yet forever grateful for the days that we were given. Each and every one was a gift. It was him that, at the age of twenty-three, made me a mommy. He saw me through very difficult times in my life, providing great comfort and unconditional love, always. I secretly always hoped he would be with me until I had children- the grief would be so much heavier without Marie + Henry’s laughter and youthful innocence. They miss him – even at such a young age they know…I’m so very thankful they knew and loved him. The quote above gives me strength, as it is so very true. He was my delight, our delight, and will never be forgotten.

I simply cannot contain my excitement about the upcoming Garance Doré + Rifle Paper Co. collaboration! With Garance’s well known aesthetic as fashion illustrator + photographer, and Rifle Paper’s craftmanship and attention to detail, it’s a perfect pairing. Launching next week in Paris at Colette, the line was recently presented at the NY NOW gift show and includes cards, calendars, social stationary, phone cases, and more! Keep an eye out in March-it’s gonna be HOT.

“A portrait of my children, once a week, every week, in 2014.”

Even though the nineteen month mark has come and gone, our weeks are still full of newness. New words, new expressions, new sounds…each and every one delight us. They love to display their independence, and have become laser focused on learning, each in their own way. I’m in awe of them daily, and have a hunch the feeling will stick around.

This week has been more eventful than expected…hence the lack of posts (sorry). I’m a bit buried with work, but work that I love…and some very exciting projects that I can’t wait to share with you! I’m keeping things brief today, but here are some of my favorite links from the week, including my debut over on Little Hip Squeaks! Wishing you all a lovely weekend. xo

cherished collections

vintage-bobbsey-twins-books

To some, a collection might be a nod to the past, for others, a token of an imagined experience. For me, each item tells a story, of someone else’s life, or mine. Over the years, I’ve been dazzled by many objects, beginning at a young age. Teddy bears, dollhouses, bottles, books + ephemera, records, milk glass, and really, any and all things French. More often than not, the vintage items I am drawn to speak to my romantic nature…I’m a sucker for nostalgia. Many of my favorites are from the 1940’s era-more specifically + freakishly, from the year 1948! The polaroid land camera passed down from my grandfather, my Royal typewriter, big band music sheets, and more (including our home). My most recent (and random) obsession is vintage French binoculars, which began with this pair. I stumbled upon these Bobbsey Twins books while pregnant and couldn’t resist including them in Marie + Henry’s room. I plan to add to the collection, and hope they will appreciate them later in life. My wish is that my cherished items will someday become theirs, as with many inherited items. Henry has already laid claim to Teddy, who had been by my side since I was five, and I couldn’t be more melted by it. After all, isn’t that what collecting is all about-preserving old memories, and creating new ones?

What are your most cherished items, and what do you collect? Please share!
