manual mode…

This was the first shot I ever took using manual mode. Thanks to my friend Kayla, I now have the courage to use it! We purchased our Nikon right before I began this blog, and it opened up a whole new world for me. Being a true novice, I felt confined to the automatic dial, with the occasional diversion or attempt at "real" photography. I think I've done fairly well, not knowing anything…but who am I to judge? Lately though, my lens has a new life and I find myself hungry for opportunities to advance my skills. Tell me…what type of camera do you have? Do you have any tips or tricks you would like to share?

Notes

  1. I’m also teaching myself photography, Susan. I have an Olympus PEN and I find it a great starter SLR. I look the snaps that are on my blog today with it, if you’re interested to see the sort of shots it can take (well, when used by a novice like me!) x

  2. With two beautiful babies to photograph now is the perfect time to learn! I laugh when I think about using a film camera only 10 years ago when Macy was a baby….shes laughs at me when I try to explain what thats all about to her. Besides the leaps and bounds technology makes every year, how awesome is it to be able to admire and learn from fantastic photographers through social media!

  3. i’m embarrassed to say, i’ve had a dslr for over a year now and i still don’t know a thing about it. it’s one of my new year’s resolutions!
