becoming a cave girl

I’m making big changes in my diet-slowly but surely, I’m going Paleo! My health hasn’t been the greatest lately-my fibromyalgia has been flaring up and there are days when I have struggled to care for the kids. After a few sobering moments and days, I came to the realization that even though I was eating fairly well, certain foods could possibly be aggravating my condition. My online research confirmed my suspicions-many have seen improved health as a result of eating like our cave dwelling ancestors. I was feeling a bit overwhelmed…what was it exactly, what would I eat, what wouldn’t I eat, you get the idea. Enter Megan Flynn…after finding her blog and getting lost in her delicious Paleo recipes, I checked out her business, Cave Girl Consulting. After her own personal success with the lifestyle, she has made it her mission to help others achieve their goals. After an initial consult and questionnaire, she analyzed my habits and routine. We chatted on the phone and got into more specifics, and she then sent me advice geared towards my current lifestyle and challenges (mom of twins, not much of a cook, personal likes/dislikes). A video tutorial and customized 30-day meal plan later, and I am off to a successful start! I feel better already, honestly-and am looking forward to having my energy and healthier physique back. Have you had success with changes in your diet? Please share!

Notes

  1. i am on day 5 of clean eating, which as i understand is pretty similar to paleo. 5 pounds down and i am feeling amazing! don’t know why i didn’t make the change sooner, it just makes sense to me. good luck to us both!

  2. I’ve been very curious about this diet so once you get into it, I’d love to hear your impressions! Do you feel that it’s very restricting? In general, I’m not a fan of diets because inevitably, one falls off the bandwagon and ends up in a worst state than before. If it’s a lifestyle change…. that may be different!

    • A lifestyle change, absolutely Lindsey. My body is in desperate need of it, so this is not a diet for me. That doesn’t mean I won’t ever have a non Paleo treat ever again, but it will have to be really worth it! I’ll keep you posted on my progress, thanks!

  3. I am doing the same Susan! Though not strictly Paleo (I’ve replaced most dairy with almond milk but haven’t strictly cut out the dairy, though I did bid a teary farewell to ice cream.) I also feel a lot better. Diet aside, I think a break from alcohol and more targeted exercise is doing this body good.

    • I’ve never given up dairy before (very tough for me), but I already feel better! Thanks for chiming in Jess ;)

  4. Yes, please keep us updated and maybe share some fave recipes?? I don’t want to lose weight, but we could all use the benefits of better eating, right? Good luck!
