In celebration of a dear friend’s upcoming betrothal, I joined a fun group of ladies aboard the Schooner Woodwind in Annapolis. As a sailing novice, I was beyond excited to finally have the experience. The weather was perfect, the boat was yar*, and soon after setting sail the champagne was flowing! I must admit I’m quite proud of myself for navigating around the boat to take photos (especially after a good bit of bubbly). The golden glow of the sunset against the skyline provided a stunning backdrop for our revelry. The experience was actually quite soothing and nostalgic for me, having spent many happy days on a boat in my youth…and I am already anxious to sail again.

*I’ve always wanted to use the term “yar” since seeing Philadelphia Story as a child…can’t help myself!

*Fun fact: the boat we sailed on was featured in the movie Wedding Crashers with Christopher Walken at the helm!

I have an exciting weekend ahead…many firsts for me! My first time away from the babies overnight, first bachelorette party (crazy I know), and first time sailing (can’t wait)! Mr. Fleurishing will be holding down the fort while I have a fun filled girls weekend-he is so amazing…I’m one lucky lady.  I’m off to Maryland shortly, but before I leave you for the weekend I wanted to share some of my favorite links for your weekend reading. Perhaps on a beach?

BON WEEKEND!

becoming a cave girl

I’m making big changes in my diet-slowly but surely, I’m going Paleo! My health hasn’t been the greatest lately-my fibromyalgia has been flaring up and there are days when I have struggled to care for the kids. After a few sobering moments and days, I came to the realization that even though I was eating fairly well, certain foods could possibly be aggravating my condition. My online research confirmed my suspicions-many have seen improved health as a result of eating like our cave dwelling ancestors. I was feeling a bit overwhelmed…what was it exactly, what would I eat, what wouldn’t I eat, you get the idea. Enter Megan Flynn…after finding her blog and getting lost in her delicious Paleo recipes, I checked out her business, Cave Girl Consulting. After her own personal success with the lifestyle, she has made it her mission to help others achieve their goals. After an initial consult and questionnaire, she analyzed my habits and routine. We chatted on the phone and got into more specifics, and she then sent me advice geared towards my current lifestyle and challenges (mom of twins, not much of a cook, personal likes/dislikes). A video tutorial and customized 30-day meal plan later, and I am off to a successful start! I feel better already, honestly-and am looking forward to having my energy and healthier physique back. Have you had success with changes in your diet? Please share!

signe sugar

I simply must share this peek from Marie + Henry’s first birthday party…these custom sugar letters by Signe Sugar literally made me gasp! Sarah Donato is the artist behind these beautiful creations, which she surprised me with-they match the invitation font! I mean…wow. I kept the cake super simple in order to let these shine-they were the most perfect adornment! If you’re not familiar with her work, check out her shop + accompanying blog to learn more…eye candy galore!
