roanoke rendezvous

visiting-roanoke

We did it!! Our first big road trip with the kids was a success-we made good time (8 hours), had minimal meltdowns, and enjoyed ourselves! Most importantly…we spent quality time with mr. fleurishing’s parents. Roanoke happens to be the perfect meeting point for us all (between PA + NC), and having visited Hotel Roanoke previously, we looked forward to our stay. Marie and Henry were so excited to finally give nana + poppy kisses after many FaceTime conversations, and bonded with them instantly. There were many sweet, tear-inducing moments, mixed with hilarity and of course, a few toddler meltdowns. We made a few excursions into downtown Roanoke, which is so quaint + charming-I especially loved the well preserved vintage signage. The southern hospitality was in full force…I had forgotten what it’s like to have strangers engage you in conversation! We headed home Monday…filled with love and a sense of accomplishment.

a few favs…hotel roanoke, taubman museum, appalachia press, and black dog salvage (more on that soon!)

bon weekend

jacadi-teddy-bear

Doesn’t this face make you smile?! He used to live in Paris, but he seemed a bit lonely so we brought him home with us, long before Marie + Henry arrived. Thankfully they are quite fond of him!  We are packed and ready for a special road trip…believe it or not, they will be meeting their nana + poppy (mr. fleurishing’s parents) for the first time. It’s been way too long, but a series of unfortunate events (and many miles) have kept us from visiting them. We are incredibly excited about it (and also a tad anxious for our first major road trip with the kids)! I’ll be back here next week, but in the meantime feel free to follow our adventures on instagram! Here are some of my favorite links for your enjoyment…

a gilded thanksgiving

Is it really only one week until Thanksgiving?! This season just flies by…wow. On Sunday I shared my tips for creating a festive holiday table at the Philadelphia West Elm store, as well as a fun DIY! I was thrilled to be invited by West Elm, and it was wonderful to see some familiar faces as well as new ones. My main advice was, and is, to make trends your own. In this highly styled world we live in, we are bombarded with images and ideas for everything, and it can be overwhelming at times. Use items you love, color palettes that make you happy, and focus on the details. I styled a table using some of my favorites…the organic shaped dinnerware (kind of obsessed), mercury glass, and of course, gold flatware. The gold leafed mini pumpkins add a personal detail and also make a great parting favor for guests!

Care to add the midas touch to your thanksgiving table? Here’s how to do it:

supplies:

pumpkin, gilding adhesive, cotton gloves, foam brush, wax paper, gold leaf sheets, sealant

instructions:

apply a light coat of glue to the pumpkin, wait 5 minutes or so until it’s sticky to touch

using the wax paper, gently lift a gold leaf sheet and apply it to your pumpkin

pat the wax paper softly using th brush, releasing the gold leaf underneath onto pumpkin

carefully remove the wax paper and smooth down edges very delicately using gloved hand

repeat the steps until covered…apply a sealant (if not using a fresh pumpkin)
