classic beauty…

1938-plymouth

I saw this classic beauty parked in the heart of our town on Thursday, and shouted "stop the car"!! We live in a historic suburb of Philadaelphia, so it is not uncommon to see vintage cars, but a 1938 Plymouth in perfect condition…definitely worth stopping for. It was begging me to photograph it, especially with the lack of people and cars around…it is amazing how quiet it was due to the holiday. I stood in awe long enough to admire the vintage beauty and get deliciously lost in time.

thanksgiving memories…

Strawberryrhubarb

One of the first things we think of when celebrating Thanksgiving is…food. In my case…I think of pie! Not just any pie…strawberry rhubarb. It's not even about the pie itself, but the memories that rush back into my mind the moment I taste it…it's my "madeleine moment". Every year, my entire family (12 or so, small compared to many) would gather at my grandparents home in Wyckoff, NJ. Prior to, we would always make a trip to Delicious Orchards and pick up goodies, most importantly, the strawberry rhubarb pie that myself, my grandfather, and my father loved so much. We would savor every bite, and look forward to it each year. To this day, that taste and tradition in particular generates very strong nostalgia for me. The holiday is just not complete without that pie, and the heartwarming memories created at my grandparents cozy home. So here's to family, pie, gratitude, and new memories…

Happy Thanksgiving!

musée d’Orsay…

Musee-d'orsay

Somehow I have neglected to write about one of my favorite Paris musuems, the Musée d'Orsay. It recently reopened after over a year and a half of renovations, and I find it interesting how it has been changed. Apparently a white background is not always best for showcasing artwork, especially in the case of impressionistic or academic pieces. The radiant white can create an aura around a painting which distracts from the subtleties and nuances of the artwork. Modern artwork, usually having more abstract and larger subjects, fares better with a white background. The new Impressionist gallery in the museum has charcoal gray walls, making the pieces the center of attention, rather than the light. If you are interested, check out this video. I am looking forward to seeing the new & improved space!

holidays at terrain

Christmas

With many thanks to Terrain,  I am really in the Christmas spirit! I was invited to preview their holiday wares, and as usual was wowed by the setting and bounty of items. They are currently overflowing with unique gifts, tree trimmings, wreaths, and soon…Christmas trees (I took this photo last year). I find myself there often this time of year, with the enticing scent of the wood-burning fire pit drawing me near…I could wander for hours. I highly recommend a visit, and if you haven’t been to the café, you must…yummy goodness year round. I could live on their homemade bread alone.
